How to Raise a Science Lover

1 February 2023 by threewords

Science is a core part of the curriculum here in the UK and is beneficial for a number of reasons. It teaches students about the world around them and how it works whilst inspiring them to make discoveries of their own. The careers it has to offer are as lucrative as they are exciting. If you would like to help your child with their science, here are some tips that we’ve put together with the help of a top boarding school.

Look for Ways to Make Science Interesting

Science is all around us. It can be explained in the way that we prepare food, nature and our very being. Thanks to science we’ve been able to make some marvellous discoveries and improve our everyday lives. There is plenty that you can explore, and the applications will keep them engaged.

Explore the Solar System

Space is an interesting concept. How can the planet be so big, yet so small in comparison to the rest of the universe? It’s mind-blowing and an area that children love learning about. With research now pointing to water on mars, could there be extra-terrestrial life that we don’t know about? These are all questions that you can explore with your child and use to fuel their love of science.

Take Them on Field Trips

A field trip can help bring it all to life. Museums such as the Leicester Space Centre are dedicated to space exploration. It houses the UK’s largest planetarium which can give an understanding of how space and everything within it works.

At-Home Science Experiments

The best thing about science is the practicals. Experiments are fun and can be replicated at home using simple everyday items. You can create your own model volcano using baking soda, food colouring and vinegar. Be warned – you may be left with a ton of cleaning, but it will be worthwhile!

Science Shows

There’s a lot that children can learn by watching TV. Science shows demonstrate cool experiments that children can recreate at home and explain the logic behind them. They are easy to follow and engaging for children.

These are just a few of the things that you can do to help raise a science lover. It may also be worth looking into a tutor to help further their understanding.
