Top Tips for Boosting Your Fertility

28 October 2021 by threewords

Our reproductive health isn’t something that is widely talked about. Fertility in general still remains a fairly taboo subject, so it often comes as a shock to couples when they start trying to conceive and it doesn’t happen immediately. If you’re hoping to have a baby one day, it’s important to educate yourself as best you can on your fertility and find out if there are any changes you can make to increase your chances of conceiving. Here are some tips to get you started from a fertility clinic in London.

Consider Your Diet

There are certain foods you can eat to help increase your fertility, as they help regulate your hormones and ensure you are receiving the right nutrients. Calcium, for instance, is a vital ingredient in the development of an embryo, so it’s worth increasing your intake of full-fat dairy. Vitamin C can improve semen quality and Vitamin D can boost testosterone levels, so be sure to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables. The Mediterranean diet is something to think about!

Furthermore, there are likely some foods you should try and cut back on. Trans fats, for example, are associated with an increased risk of ovulatory infertility. They are usually present in things like baked goods, processed products, and fried foods, to name but a few.

Exercise Moderately

As a woman, too much exercise can be just as bad as not enough exercise because it can impact your menstrual cycle. With that said, if you want to conceive, you should try and keep exercise to a moderate level, like a short walk or jog each day as opposed to a hardcore workout in the gym. Being underweight or overweight can damage your fertility, so aim for a healthy BMI.

Avoid Caffeine & Alcohol

When it comes to alcohol and fertility, it is bad for both men and women because it can change hormonal balance. In other words, it can change sperm production and ovulation, which are obviously both crucial for conceiving a baby. Studies have also found that caffeine can increase the length of time it takes to conceive, so it’s worth cutting back on that as well.

Reduce Stress

We all know that this is easier said than done, but stress can negatively impact fertility, so it would be good to make a conscious effort to reduce it if you can. Perhaps you could consider meditation or therapy to help you manage your mental health.
