Starting Your New Life As a Student

1 November 2022 by threewords

It’s that time of year again when the leaves start changing colour, the air gets a little crisper, and students everywhere are gearing up for another school year. Whether you’re a freshman starting college for the first time or a returning student getting back into the swing of things, there’s always something new to learn about being a student. This blog post will cover everything from choosing your classes to making friends on campus. So put on your backpack, and let’s get started!

1) Choosing your classes:

When it comes to picking your courses, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, think about what kind of schedule you want. Are you someone who likes to have all their classes in the morning so you can have the rest of the day free? Or do you prefer evening classes so you can sleep in? Once you’ve decided on a general time frame, start looking at the course descriptions to see which classes sound interesting to you. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try something new you never know what you might end up loving!

2) Budgeting your finances:

As a student, one of the most important things you’ll need to learn is how to budget your money. This means figuring out how much you have coming in (from financial aid, scholarships, part-time jobs, etc.) and what your regular expenses are (tuition, rent, food, etc.). Once you have a general idea of your monthly budget, you can start making adjustments as necessary. For example, if you find that you’re spending too much on eating out, try cooking more meals at home. Or, if you’re having trouble making ends meet, look into getting a part-time job or finding scholarships and grants that can help cover some of your costs, or look for cheaper and better accommodation, for instance, student accommodation close to campus.

3) Managing your time:

One of the biggest challenges of being a student is learning how to manage your time effectively. With classes, homework, extracurriculars, and socialising, it can be easy to let things fall by the wayside. However, a great way to stay on top of things is to make a schedule at the beginning of each week. Write down when all of your classes are, when you have time for homework, and when you’ll be able to relax or hang out with friends. And remember to leave some wiggle room in your schedule in case something comes up!

4) Staying healthy:

It’s important to take care of yourself both physically and mentally while you’re a student. There are a few simple things you can do to stay healthy during your time on campus. First, eat healthy foods and try to get some exercise every day. Getting caught up in the dining hall or take-out options is easy, but your body will thank you for eating some fruits and vegetables! Additionally, make sure you’re getting enough sleep. It can be tempting to stay up all night studying or socialising, but you’ll feel better (and do better in class!) if you get a good night’s rest.

In conclusion, starting your new life as a student can be both exciting and overwhelming. But if you take things one step at a time, you’ll surely have a great experience. So get out there and make the most of your time as a student!
