Winning the Battle as an Efficient Freelancer Parent: 3 Things To Remember

For so many parents working as freelancers, the notion of efficiency is a completely alien concept. If you are trying to earn a living from your blog, you will need to focus on your work more effectively, but it’s easier said than done. A parent that is working as a freelancer needs to understand that balance is key. Let’s show you a number of tactics to become a more productive and efficient freelancing parent.

Understand Each Problem First

Most of us keep going until we encounter a problem, and if it’s a problem we cannot solve, we become more frustrated. It’s far better to embody a more business leader approach to things by understanding that if you want to be more efficient, you’ve got to comprehend what the potential problems will be. Because the problems are not just in relation to the children; it’s in relation to the work itself. You may have a 15-minute window where you know that you can get stuff done but you’ve got a backed-up hard drive or there is malware on your laptop that is going to hinder your work day. When it comes to something like removing malware, you can look here for help.

But when you understand what the potential problems are, you need to come up with solutions for each one. For example, if the internet goes out you can have a dongle ready to ensure that you do not dip in productivity. You can also have your favourite local cafe that is soft play ready, so you can go there and not let the ball drop. The solutions to the problems will make sure you stay efficient in the long run.

Working With Your Child’s Schedule

Many parents find it frustrating when they actually try to do any proper work. The best thing you can do is to understand your child’s schedule. You can then make the appropriate plans to do specific types of work based on how your child is doing at any particular moment. You have to understand how long it takes you to do certain types of tasks. As pressurising as it may feel to have to do certain things within a specific amount of time, if you’re really going to win the battle of being a freelancer parent, you’ve got to use the time to your advantage.

If you are running a blog, you might not think it’s a good idea to put a time limit on creativity but instead, you can put a time limit on getting a very barebone draft down. This is where tools like voice typing can really help. It helps you to multitask if you’ve got to hold your child, but you can also train software like Dragon to understand your voice better, which means that, over time, you can start to dictate your work in a very short space of time. Depending on how fast and clear you can speak, there is no reason why you can’t do 500 words in the space of 5 or 10 minutes. But when you work with your child’s schedule and you understand that when you’ve got 15 minutes spare, you can use that time more effectively. So if you need to do 3 blogs, in theory, you could do these in the space of 15 minutes and then tidy them up later.

The Little Things That Make You More Productive

Productivity is not about how much you can do in a specific amount of time, but you’ve got to remember that if you are working against time or you need to do a variety of other tasks around the house, you’ve got to understand the best habits productive people really have, and this article can give you a variety of resources to get you started, notably the 80/20 rule. Understanding that 80% of your results come from 20% of the effort might make you reappraise the entire approach to work. Because productivity is not just about what you do in a certain amount of time, but about getting your mindset in gear as well.

A lack of productivity can stem from low blood sugar or having the wrong tools. When you start to get a far better understanding of what efficiency means for you based on your specific environment, you can come up with a variety of tools that help you to tackle this more effectively.

The difficulty in freelancing as a parent means that you are doubling your workload in so many ways. But with the right collection of tactics that suit you and your child’s temperament and neediness levels, you can become more efficient.
