How to Be More Involved in Your Child’s Education

When it comes to your child’s education, parents should aim to keep up to date with what their children are doing at school and how they can help them. It not only helps children know that they’re having adequate support, but it also means that your child has someone to lean on and parents are showing that they care about their child’s future.

Like most parents, we want to know what’s best for our children and how we can help them as best we can, which is why we’ve teamed up with this English Summer School to provide guidance on how to be more involved in your child’s education.

Ask your child regularly about their days at school

When your child comes home from work you should ask your child about how their day was and if they had any struggles throughout the day. Not only are you showing that you care and want to help your child, but your child is more likely to confide in you if they are having particular issues at school.

Have a catch up with your child wherever you can to understand where they are with their studies and also to learn for yourself what your child’s studying – you could find a lot of fun facts of your own!

Attend the parents’ evenings

It can be tricky if you’re working full time and don’t have the entire capacity to get to your child’s school, but you should make every effort to attend parents’ evenings. Not only are you getting more involved in your child’s education, but you’re also seeing how your child performs and what can be done to help your child in their work.

You’re also able to chat to teachers about the curriculum and what could be coming up in the next few weeks at school. Should you feel the need to, you can prepare your child for the next couple of weeks to help them along the way.

Sit with your child and help with their homework

If there’s a chance to work with your child on their homework, take the opportunity. Sit with your child and guide them through what they’re doing, but try not to interfere too much as they should be able to work through their assignments by themselves. Oversee what they’re doing so that you can get a better grasp of what they’re learning about, and offer to help if they’re really stuck on certain questions.
