As a full-time blogger, I have worked from home for many years now, but since lockdown, I know there are so many more of us who work at least part-time at home.
My husband is one of them; he now works from home two or three days a week and goes into the office on the other days. He usually likes to stand up, in the kitchen with his laptop and monitor sat on the worktop and get in my way as much as possible.
He did this every working day during lockdown, and we somehow managed not to kill each other. When he’s working in the kitchen, I will often work upstairs from bed because he has meetings and it’s too distracting otherwise, but sometimes I will sit at the dining table and try to pretend he’s not here whilst manoeuvring around him every time I make a cup of tea and getting constantly annoyed with each other!
None of these places are ideal to work from, and the kitchen worktop is definitely too low to work from regularly and not good for his back. A standing desk is something we have discussed as a great option before, but it hadn’t really gone much further than that. My husband is happy to stand up all day, and his office now has standing desks, but I would not want to do that – I prefer to sit on my bum wherever possible. So the perfect solution for us is a height adjustable desk, and we’re very lucky to have been sent one from FlexiSpot.
This beautiful desk is so clever and just what we need for us to both be able to use it at the height we want without causing any problems for the other. We have the Q8 from Flexispot, which is a height-adjustable 8-in-1 desk, that comes in black or white with a beautiful, sleek bamboo desktop.
It is huge, making it perfect for my husband to have both his laptop and monitor as well as notepad right in front of him – and I finally have my kitchen worktops back properly! There’s plenty of space for us to both leave our laptops on it without them getting in the way of each other, plus there’s a drawer so we can keep pens and notepads neatly out the way.
The desk moves up and down so smoothly using the buttons on the keypad, so it’s not a faff to change regularly, and I’m actually using it as a standing desk a lot more than I thought I would, but then I can easily pull up my chair and lower the desk quickly if I’ve had enough of standing. I find it particularly great to use as a standing desk when I’m just doing a quick five minutes of work and just want to get on with it – it’s so handy to just be able to stand there and open up my laptop and get stuff done.
The desk has an anti-collision system, which means that it knows if there is something above or below it so it will stop, making it safe even with kids around who might think it’s fun to play with (although there is a child lock too which is a great addition). It also means I can have our filing cabinet underneath with the printer on top so that they are out of the way and not cluttering up the top of the desk, but they won’t be crushed if we lower it more than we should!
The keypad on the front of the desk also has USB Type A and Type C ports, which are so handy to have whilst I’m working; plus, you can charge things wirelessly right there on the top of the desk!
The cable-management system which is hidden underneath the desk is a brilliant feature and holds all your wires so I now don’t have a huge tangle of wires for umpteen different things on show, which I really hated before. I just have an extension lead sat in the cable holder and the different things we need plugged into that, so they’re not all hanging down and looking a mess.
The Q8 8-in-1 Standing Desk from FlexiSpot has oval legs and rounded corners, which is for impact protection as well as looking really nice. The bamboo top is an environmentally friendly material with a natural grain that looks so lovely, and it is also waterproof, mothproof and resistant to scratches.
We’re so happy with our new desk; how practical it is and how great it looks, and I’m also very happy to have my kitchen back! I love that it can be used as a standing desk whatever your height, as well as a regular desk that you sit at. It’s so modern and well-designed and really has everything you need from a desk when working from home.
If you are looking for a large standing desk that looks sleek and beautiful and is of brilliant quality, then you should definitely check the Q8 out, and up until the 31st of July, there is a summer sale on at FlexiSpot, where you can get up to 38% off! Find it here: FlexiSpot Q8 Standing Desk
