Top Tips for Updating Your Bedroom

When was the last time you thought about giving your bedroom an update? If it was a while ago, now could be the time to put some budget towards updating it. If the last time was a long time ago, you will find there are plenty of new ways to freshen things up and change the way it feels.

Updating your bedroom can be done in many ways, it mostly comes down to your budget and how much you would like to spend. On a lower budget, you can add pictures to the wall, add a lick of paint, consider plants or add a mirror. On a higher budget, you could look into pocket spring beds, new furniture and potentially changing the flooring – the possibilities are endless.

Before you decide what changes to make, it is best to sit down, put a spreadsheet together and calculate how much you are able to put towards your new project. We would advise looking on social media channels like Instagram or Pinterest to see how other people have updated their bedrooms as you can get some great inspiration from doing this.

Below are our top tips for updating your bedroom.

Consider your wall space

Your wall space is a great place to start when updating your bedroom. If you find your walls have a lot of white space, then adding something to break that space up can make a big difference. Consider hanging a mirror on the wall – this adds light, makes the room look bigger and can be used as a mirror itself. Artwork or pictures are both great alternatives as these can be changed regularly and are very affordable. If you enjoy taking your own photos, you could print some of your favourite occasions out.

A repaint can go a long way

Talking about wall space, do you think a new lick of paint is due? You can either change the colour completely or opt to repaint it in the same colour. Repainting in the same colour can bring back a new feeling to the room. Changing the colour adds a completely different feel and will be noticed more if you have guests visiting your home. Both are just as cost-effective as the other, so this is more down to preference. In most cases, you can completely repaint a room within a day or two. If you don’t want to go down the route of painting your bedroom, you could consider buying some wallpaper.

To buy new furniture or not?

One question you are going to have to ask yourself when updating your bedroom is whether you should update the furniture or not. Updating the furniture will completely change the look and feel of the room, you can add functionality which you didn’t have before and it’s great fun. The downside is the cost. New furniture does add up, especially if you are trying to kit out a larger room. You could go down the route of affordable furniture options, however, bear in mind these don’t tend to last as long.

Updating the flooring

Another question to ask yourself is whether you would like to update the flooring. Just like new furniture, flooring does come with a higher cost, however, there are affordable options when you look to get some quotes. You could opt for carpet flooring or laminate flooring as well as other options. It’s best to visit a flooring store, as this way you can see the different options, as well as feel them and walk on them.

Purchase some plants

When it comes to simple solutions to update any room within your home, turn to plants to do the job for you. There are so many different types of plants that you can purchase. They will add colour, can easily be moved around, change the feel of the room instantly and are very affordable. You’ll be amazed at how effective plants can be as a quick way to change the feel of the room, especially in your bedroom. When you visit your friends or family’s house next, take a look around and see what plants they are using as interior pieces. If you don’t like the idea of a real plant, you could turn to fake plants.

What tips do you have for updating a bedroom? Are there any tips that we haven’t included that you feel we should have? Which of the above tips did you find most useful? If you have anything to share that would benefit our readers, please let us know in the comment box below.
