Kitchen Renovation: 5 Areas You Should Invest in to Get Maximum Return On Investment

Kitchen renovations are a great way to add value to your home (in some cases, this can be as much as 10%) and make it more enjoyable for you and your family. But with so many areas of a kitchen to consider, where should you invest your hard-earned money to get the greatest return on investment? In this article, we’ll cover five areas of your kitchen that you should prioritise when renovating to maximise your investment return.

Cabinetry

If you’re renovating your kitchen, cabinets are one of the most important areas to invest in. This is because they make up an estimated 50% of your kitchen’s value. What’s more, the style and quality of your cabinets can also significantly impact your kitchen’s aesthetics. If you need help deciding on the best cabinets for your kitchen, keep these considerations in mind:

  • What style of kitchen are you renovating?
  • What size are your cabinets?
  • How much storage do you need?
  • What type of materials is best for your space?

If you’re renovating a kitchen with traditional styling, you’ll want to choose cabinets with a classic design, like warm-toned wood. If your kitchen has a modern look, sleek silver, black, or grey metal cabinets look beautiful. And if you’re renovating a rustic kitchen, distressed and weathered wood cabinets in warm, rich tones will add an elegant touch.

Flooring

The type of flooring you choose for your kitchen can help transform your space’s aesthetics while also increasing your home’s value. Laminate and vinyl are two of the most common options. Laminate flooring is more affordable and lasts longer than natural wood. However, it doesn’t provide the same aesthetic value as wood and isn’t suitable for high-traffic areas. So if you have energetic kids or pets, laminate may not be the best option. On the other hand, vinyl flooring is often waterproof and can provide a hard-wearing alternative to laminate flooring. It’s available in a wide range of styles, colours, patterns, and different levels of quality and thickness to allow you to find the best option for your kitchen.

Appliances

When it comes to your kitchen appliances, you need to ensure they are high quality and durable and flow well with your kitchen design. These days, integrated appliances are popular with homeowners for kitchen renovations due to their ability to fit seamlessly into cabinetry or a kitchen island. While this isn’t always possible, if you choose free-standing appliances, ensure you choose one that it’s the size of your kitchen and works well within the design to avoid detracting from the overall look and layout.

Countertops

If you’re renovating a kitchen, the type of countertop you choose can significantly impact your space’s functionality and aesthetics. If you have young children in your home, choosing a material that’s easy to clean, such as laminate or wood, is essential. If you want a more luxurious aesthetic, materials such as granite, marble, and wood are more expensive but add a touch of elegance to your space via well-designed Bespoke kitchen worktops. If you want a kitchen with a rustic aesthetic, you can choose wood as your countertop material. However, if you want a modern kitchen, it’s best to select a non-porous material such as granite or concrete.

Lighting

The type of lighting you choose for your kitchen can significantly impact your space’s aesthetics and functionality. For example, pendants and chandeliers provide light and a beautiful feature to your kitchen. When choosing lighting for your kitchen, remember that you’ll also have to consider the amount of light you’ll need for cooking and the amount of light you’ll need for general illumination. So make sure to choose the right amount and type of lighting for your space.

Conclusion

Cabinetry, flooring, appliances, countertops, and lighting are essential to consider when renovating your kitchen. Choosing high-quality materials in the right style and design can transform your kitchen from dated and dull to sleek, modern, and stylish.
