Four Things to Consider When Booking a Trip to Lisbon

Are you thinking of taking a trip to Lisbon for your holiday? Lisbon is a beautiful city, with so much to see and do. There are a whole myriad of hotels to stay in, restaurants to dine at, bars to drink in, and places to sightsee. No matter your interests, there is something for everyone – if you enjoy a cocktail (or two) a rooftop bar is a must. For those who like their food, we recommend taking a trip to the Timeout market or the foodie stalls within the central city. Accommodation-wise, you can book anything from a 3-star up to a 4-star or 5-star hotel, it depends on what your budget is – when checking out of your hotel, book a Lisbon luggage storage so that you enjoy the city for longer without having to lug your suitcase around with you.

Four Things to Consider When Booking a Trip to Lisbon

Your accommodation

When it comes to booking any trip away, your accommodation is extremely important. It is the place you will leave your travel bag and spend many hours in when sleeping and getting changed, ready to explore. Before booking your flights, take a moment to explore the accommodation options online. Decide on your budget and look into their star rating system – some countries score a 4-star or 5-star hotel to a different standard from other countries. Make sure you read the user reviews as this can give you a good indication of how other guests have experienced the hotel when staying in the past. Another thing to consider is the extra amenities that you may require. Do you want it to have a spa? Is there a restaurant on-site? A bar on site etc.

Where to get the best flight prices from?

Booking your flights is just as important as booking your accommodation, especially when trying to stick to a certain budget. Flight prices change regularly and are normally controlled by the number of seats that are available to book – the lower the number, the higher your seat price will be. You can opt to risk booking your flights last minute but may have to spend more (but also have the chance of getting them cheaper) or you can book them in advance to try and save money. When looking into flights, we recommend using a flight comparison site to see which companies offer the most competitive prices. Also, consider the time of year you are travelling, peak times will be more expensive than off-peak.

What are you going to do?

When visiting Lisbon, what are you going to do? Have you done any research on what the city offers and whether its offering is right for you? As mentioned above, Lisbon is a great place, ideal for a lot of different tastes and reasons for visiting. Foodies will love visiting as so will families with children or couples looking for a romantic break away – it has everything. To stop yourself from missing out on anything, spend some time booking the key attractions before you go. This way you can guarantee yourself entry to things as well as potentially save yourself money by booking in advance. As we mentioned above, the Timeout market should be on your list of things to do as well as visiting Casa Independente, Monsanto Park and seeing the view at Portas do Sol.

The time of year you visit

Lisbon is beautiful all year round, however, the time of year will have an impact on the things you will do in the city. During the summer Lisbon can get very hot, allowing you to explore in your shorts and t-shirt and spend time in the outdoor markets. In the winter months, it can get rainy, meaning other plans will have to be made for your holiday. That said, there are plenty of things that you can do in Lisbon when the weather isn’t at its peak – the winter months should not put you off visiting, especially around Christmas time when you have the markets.

Lisbon is a beautiful city that we highly recommend you add to the top of your bucket list of places to visit. You can spend a few days, go for a mid-week break or spend a week or two exploring the city without getting bored. Just make sure you bring your camera with you as there are plenty of Instagram shots to be captured.

Have you been to Lisbon before? What are your favourite things to do when visiting this wonderful city? Let us know in the comment box below.
